Dragon Armor M4A3 Sherman 105mm VVSS No. 60282, Vintage year – 2007 OUT OF PRODUCTION Scale – 1:72 Unit – 6th Armored Division – also called the “Super Sixth”, this armored division of the U.S. Army was formed with a cadre from the 2nd Armored Division under the 1942 Table of Organization and Equipment. After the end of the Normandy Campaign, 6th Armored Division assembled at Le Mesnil on 25 July 1944. It secured a bridgehead across the Sienne near Pont de la Roque and overran Granville on 31 July 1944. It then returned to Avranches, where it relieved the 4th Armored and secured the area bridges. In mid-August in Europe, the 6th Armored moved down to Lorient where it was relieved by the 94th Infantry Division in September. It then turned east and cut across France, reaching the Saar River in November. It crossed the Nied River on 11-12 Nov. against strong opposition and reached the German border on 6 December and established defensive positions in Saarbrucken. Campaign – Luxembourg 1945 – After the initial advance into Germany, it took part in the Battle of the Bulge and took over a sector along the south bank of the Sauer (in Belgium and Luxembourg). It was heavily engaged in the battle for Bastogne, finally driving the enemy back across the Our River into Germany by late Jan. 1945. After a brief rehabilitation, the division resumed the offensive, penetrated the Siegfried Line, crossed the Prum, reached the Rhine River at Worms on 21 March and set up a counter-reconnaissance screen along its west bank. It crossed the Rhine at Oppenheim on 25 March and drove on to Frankfurt, capturing Bad Nauheim and Mulhausen in early April. Later if moved across the Saale River and assisted freeing Allied POWs and Buchenwald. The division raced on to take Leipzig, crossing the Mulde River at Rochlitz on 15 April where it stopped pending the arrival of the Soviet Army. Model – the M4A3 – this version had a Ford GAA V-8 engine, a welded hull and a 105 mm howitzer cannon (used primarily for infantry support rather than anti-armor). This vehicle used the upgraded horizontal volute spring suspension. Markings – olive drab under winter white camouflage with white star on the hull sides. The No. 15 is painted in yellow on the mid hull. Outstanding weathering, detailed tools, headlights/tail lights, vision blocks, turret periscope, hull welding, bogies, and tracks. Condition – Like new with minor wear on box. This model is from my personal collection – no dust – smoke free home. I will be listing additional Dragon Armor Models over the next few weeks.
