High wattage bulbs, direct sunlight, extended use, placement near a heat duct or not conditioning the hide frequently enough causes drying.We recommend neatsfoot oil for regular conditioning. February seems to be the worst month for splitting because furnaces are running, drying the air. Air conditioning also dries the air causing the same result as heat. Regular conditioning and LED bulbs are the most important tips to prolong shade life.
